Explore the science behind ThermNeck & Upper Back

Precision-engineered to target tension where it builds

Engineered by experts and trusted by pros, ThermNeck & Upper Back targets the specific muscles behind neck and upper-back pain, including the upper trapezius, levator scapulae and deeper neck muscles that tighten from forward head posture. Each modality is strategically positioned to work these areas directly for targeted comfort to the muscles that need it most.

Soothe your neck after prolonged screen time

Dual Theragun percussion and far-infrared heat focus on the trapezius and upper-neck muscles where everyday tension often builds during prolonged screen time. Adjust the speed and pressure to suit how your neck feels that day, helping tense muscles feel loose, relaxed and comfortable.

Release tension before it builds

Kneading massage and far-infrared heat work together to release the stress-related tension that accumulates in the trapezius and upper back muscles throughout the day, before it has a chance to take hold.

Cordless design with adjustable straps

ThermNeck & Upper Back features a cordless design with adjustable straps and hand loops that let you control the fit and pressure throughout your treatment — seated, standing or reclined. Pull the loops down and forward when you want deeper pressure or ease your grip for a gentler massage.

What the experts say

ThermNeck & Upper Back was developed with practitioners and sports scientists to deliver targeted massage and soothing warmth across key neck and upper-back muscles.

Dr. Daniel Giordano, PT, DPT, CSCS
"Over time, the muscles in the front of the chest become tight, while the muscles that support the neck, shoulder blades and upper back become weaker and less active. That imbalance is what drives the stiffness and tension so many people feel from screen posture. Targeting those overworked muscles directly — with percussion and heat placed right where the tension builds — is what helps release it at the source."
Dr. Rachelle Reed, PhD, MS, ACSM-EP, Head of Science Research and Communication
“Neck and upper back tension rarely stays in one place. It radiates from a handful of predictable muscle groups. We designed ThermNeck & Upper Back around that reality, positioning percussion, kneading and heat exactly where those muscles sit, so the modality on the device meets the source of discomfort instead of treating the neck as one generic zone.”
Dr. Jason Wersland, Founder and Chief Wellness Officer
“The neck and back are two areas where so many of us carry the effects of everyday life, whether from training, sitting at a desk, traveling or simply being on our feet all day. We created ThermNeck & Upper Back to bring Therabody’s proven, science-backed technology directly to these hard-working areas of the body. Our goal is to make effective therapeutic technologies easier to use at home, giving people the tools to care for their bodies consistently, before discomfort gets in the way.”

FAQs

How is ThermNeck & Upper Back different from a regular neck massager?

ThermNeck & Upper Back combines five wellness technologies in one cordless wearable: dual Theragun percussion, kneading massage, far-infrared heat, near-infrared LED and soothing heat. Instead of switching between separate devices, it brings these technologies together in one convenient design. Each feature is strategically positioned across key neck and upper-back muscles, including the trapezius, levator scapulae and splenius capitis, for targeted comfort after screen time, desk work or a demanding day.

Does ThermNeck & Upper Back use red light (near-infrared LED), and what does it do?

ThermNeck & Upper Back has 12 precision-placed LEDs that deliver targeted near-infrared light across the back of the neck. Near-infrared LED helps to support the body’s natural recovery processes after everyday activity, while carbon-fiber far-infrared heat delivers deeper-reaching warmth to help tense muscles feel relaxed and comfortable.

Does heat help tense muscles feel relaxed, and how does far-infrared heat work?

ThermNeck & Upper Back uses carbon-fiber far-infrared heat with three temperature settings to deliver sustained, soothing warmth across the neck and upper back, helping tense muscles feel relaxed and comfortable.

Can ThermNeck & Upper Back soothe everyday tension associated with “tech neck”?

“Tech neck” is commonly used to describe the everyday neck and upper-back tension people may feel after prolonged screen time. Looking down at a screen or phone can leave key muscles — including the trapezius and splenius capitis  feeling tense and tired. ThermNeck & Upper Back uses dual Theragun percussion to focus on these hard-working areas, helping the muscles feel relaxed and comfortable.

Can it help with stress-related neck tension?

Yes. When a busy or stressful day leaves your neck and shoulder muscles feeling tense, ThermNeck & Upper Back’s kneading massage helps them feel relaxed and comfortable. Choose from three kneading settings to find the intensity that feels right for you.

Who is ThermNeck & Upper Back best for?

ThermNeck & Upper Back is designed for anyone looking to relax tense neck and upper-back muscles after desk work, screen time or a demanding day. Whether your muscles feel tense or tired by mid-afternoon, it delivers targeted massage and soothing warmth to help you feel relaxed and comfortable. The adjustable strap system accommodates a wide range of body types.

How does ThermNeck & Upper Back compare to a handheld Theragun?

A handheld Theragun delivers targeted percussion across a wide range of muscle groups. ThermNeck & Upper Back is a cordless wearable designed specifically for the neck and upper back, with dual Theragun percussion positioned across key muscles including the splenius capitis and trapezius. It also combines kneading massage, soothing heat, far-infrared heat and near-infrared LED in one integrated device.

The two products are complementary: use a handheld Theragun for versatile, full-body percussion and ThermNeck & Upper Back when you want a targeted, hands-free experience that helps your neck and upper-back muscles feel relaxed and comfortable.

What is included with ThermNeck & Upper Back?

ThermNeck & Upper Back ships with the device, a soft travel case and a USB-C charging cable.

How do I clean ThermNeck & Upper Back?

Wipe the massage heads and silicone surfaces with a damp cloth or alcohol-free wipe after each use. Do not submerge the device in water or expose it to excessive moisture. Allow all components to dry fully before storing or recharging.
